Hotel Corallo: the village of Pomonte

Pomonte is a small fishermen village on the western side of the island.
In its back lies a huge valley that stretches until the top of the Monte Capanne mountain, full of vineyards on terraces, little lakes and small waterfalls.

The origins of this village go back to the etruscan civilisation. In the valley, in the past full of trees, a lot of reminders of etruscan iron mining were found. Pomonte had also strong relations with the island of Corsica. Still today the local dialect, street and family names are the proof of this contact.

Numerous paths and treks, departing from Pomonte, allow to reach the top of the surrounding mountains and all the other villages near the Monte Capanne.

The coast is made of steep cliffs falling into the sea. On the left of the village are situated some small pebble beaches.

The village is famous because just a few meters from the shore, 16 meters deep, lies the ship wrack of the Elviscott, sunken in the seventies. Therefore the beach is much frequented by the divers.

In Pomonte you will find a bank, drugstore, restaurants, bars, bakery, super market, newspapers and tobacco, post office, 24 hours medical assistance.
